News & Updates

10/25/09 - The Stork is Coming Again
It is with excitement and pleasure that the Dimitri
family has learned there will be a new addition to the family.
As of this writing my wife Shannon is 10 weeks pregnant with
our 3rd child. The little peanut is due on June 10th which is
also my father's birthday. Big brothers Shane and Nico can't
wait to meet their new sibling.

5/10/09 - International Congress of Oral
Implantologists Fellowship award
I am proud and humbled to have received my Fellowship
award in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists
this past weekend at the ICOI's Philadelphia Symposium. Even
though I was recognized for this achievement in August 2008,
the actual presentation of the award officially culminates my
status as a Fellow. Below are a couple of pictures from that
weekend as well as a link to see photos of me and the family
on our excursions in downtown Philadelphia.

4/15/09 - Finally!
After months of construction the front of the
office and parking lot are finally completed. No more crossing
dirt and mud to get to the front door. Everything is looking
quite nice. Check out the pictures below for our new look.

3/15/09 - Tooth Grinding Article
Here is an interesting article in the Washington
Times covering the increased incidence of people grinding thier
teeth, a direct result of the increased stress we are all feeling
brought on by many factors (economy, etc).

3/15/09 - Consturction Update, part V
The subcontractors have finally come along and
begun to fix up the interior of the office, tying the floors,
walls, and ceiling into the new glass façade. The painters
have primed the walls and will be putting the final coats on
shortly. The ceiling tiles have been replaced and all electrical
work has been completed. Again, thank you for bearing with us
during the construction period. It will be over soon and things
will look wonderful both inside and outside the office.
When parking out front, we recommend you stay
a few spots away from the large green dumpster. Debris tends
to accumulate around it and we don’t want anyone’s
vehicle to accidentally get damaged.

2/15/09 - Alternative to Mouth Wash for
Fresh Breath
Check out the link to this
article that touches on several herbs that can be used to
freshen breath.

1/25/09 - Construction Update, part IV
Things are moving along nicely with the exterior
construction and remodeling of the Smallwood Village Center.
Green signs adorn the sides of the road indicating the varous
businesses. Colored awnings looking like an assorted bag of
mints are now covering the the fronts over the new glass (Ours
is a lovely shade of hunter green). The concrete has been repoured
in front and the black top will probably be completed when the
weather warms up consistently over 40 degrees. Inside the contractors
will be starting on restoring the waiting area and the other
areas adjacent to the new windows. Thank you again for bearing
with us during the consturction.

12/25/08 - Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays to all of you from myself, CC,
Diane, Barbara, Laura, and Stephanie. May these holidays bring
you happiness and blessings as well as a prosperous new year.
Cheers!

Nico & Shane Dimitri showing their holiday
spirit.

12/22/08 - Scientific Dentistry - Cutting
Edge Stuff
The link below goes to an article that discusses
research that shows polishing teeth to a very fine finish makes
them more resistant to decay because the bacteria have a tougher
time sticking to the highly polished surface. You can read all
the details by clicking here.
Cranberry juice has been used for years to help
treat urinary tract infections. Studies are showing that the
same anti-adhesion properties in cranberry juice works the same
against cavity forming bacteria on teeth. Click here
to read more.
We think of sports drinks as healthy substances
that help to replenish lost minerals and electrolytes as well
as give us an energy boost. Unfortunately we are not aware of
the potential harm they can cause our teeth. Read here
for more details.
To you in good health,
Dr. Dimitri

12/17/08 - The importance of maintaining
oral health
Recently Whoopi Goldberg shared her experience
of a dental abscess and her realization of how it impacted her
overall health. Unfortunately it took this acute incident to
spark the realization of how imperative oral health is and how
it affects overall health. Click on the link below and listen
to Whoopi describe her experience. She does a marvelous job
explaining things in terms people can relate to.

12/2/08 - Construction Update, part III
In the picture below (11/22/08 entry) you see
interior temporary plywood walls. Those are now gone and glass
has been put up. Things are finally starting to look good and
not so much like London during the bomobings of WWII. Please
continue to bear with us as progress mosies along. The construction,
at least around and upon us, should be done shortly.

11/26/08 - Happy Thanksgiving
Warm wishes and a safe and happy Thanksgiving
to everyone from myself, Laura, CC, Barbara, Diane, and Stephanie.
Try not to break teeth on mixed nut snacks and turkey bones!

11/22/08 - Construction Update, part II
The parking lot directly in front of the office
is now complete and you can park there, though I would keep
a little distance from the massive dumpster that sits in the
middle of it to avoid the possibility of debris and damage to
your vehicles. You can get to the sidewalk by shimmying along
the concrete curbs until the final black top is placed. The
old blue sign is bolted on the brick wall facin the old parking
lot and there is also a large red and white banner directly
over the front of the office. Please enter through the temproary
wooden door with the "Come In, We Are Open" black,
white, and red sign on it.

10/22/08 - Construction Update
Please pardon the mess while the construction
crews continue their renovation of the Smallwood Village Center
complex. We are still in the same location with signs out on
the front wall. The new parking lot in front of the office should
be open any day now but until then please continue to park in
the side parking lots and walk up the sidewalk like in the past.
The outer wall will be coming down in preparation for a new
replacement glass facing with new doors. Interior plywood walls
have been erected to allow the office to continue to deliver
care during this period of change.
If you are uncertain of our location amidst the
whirlwind of construction please call the office at (310) 645-1110
or (301)843-1333 and we will assist in guiding you to us.

10/16/08 - Welcome!
Hello Everyone,
After several months of aggravating back and forth
between several web hosting companies, web developers, marketing
“gurus,” and computer programmers, I am happy to
announce that dimitridental.com
is being hosted by none other then me. That means all changes
and postings of information and text will be handled and uploaded
by me using software on my own computer. With this ability,
you will find changes occurring often as I will be constantly
posting new information about the office, the dental profession,
and personal tidbits about the staff.
Please feel free to email me at dr_george@prodigy.net
with any comments or suggestions. To yours in good health.
Dr. George Dimitri
